DESCRIPTION:#TheHumanRace\nA global challenge for climate action in solidarity with the people who need it most\nThe climate emergency is wreaking havoc across the world at a scale that people on the front lines and in the humanitarian community cannot manage. Time is already running out for the world’s most vulnerable people — those who have contributed least to the global climate emergency yet are hit the hardest — and millions of others that are already losing their homes\, their livelihoods\, and their lives. \nWith most climate campaigns focused on slowing climate change and securing the planet’s future\, World Humanitarian Day 2021\, will highlight the immediate consequences of the climate emergency for the world’s most vulnerable people and ensure that their voices are heard\, and their needs top the agenda at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November. \nTherefore\, everyone is invited to join #TheHumanRace\, which is the global challenge for climate action in solidarity with people who need it the most; and to put the needs of climate-vulnerable people front and centre at the UN climate summit (COP26). \nStand in solidarity with the world’s most vulnerable people by using these hashtags in your social media activities #TheHumanRace #WorldHumanitarianDay \nBackground\nThis day was designated in memory of the 19 August 2003 bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad\, Iraq\, killing 22 people\, including the chief humanitarian in Iraq\, Sergio Vieira de Mello. In 2009\, the United Nations General Assembly formalized the day as World Humanitarian Day (WHD). \nEach year\, WHD focuses on a theme\, bringing together partners from across the humanitarian system to advocate for the survival\, well-being and dignity of people affected by crises\, and for the safety and security of aid workers. \nThis year\, we highlight the immediate human cost of the climate crisis by pressuring world leaders to take meaningful climate action for the world’s most vulnerable people.

DESCRIPTION:Transforming food systems\nYouth innovation for human and planetary health\nWith the world’s population expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years\, it has become recognized by numerous stakeholders that simply producing a larger volume of healthier food more sustainably will not ensure human and planetary wellbeing. Other crucial challenges must also be addressed\, such as the interlinkages embodied by the 2030 Agenda including poverty reduction; social inclusion; health care; biodiversity conservation; and climate change mitigation. It has been acknowledged that there is a need for inclusive support mechanisms that ensure youth continue to amplify efforts collectively and individually to restore the planet and protect life\, while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems. \nThe theme of International Youth Day 2021\, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”\, highlights the success of such a global effort will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people. \nDuring the 2021 ECOSOC Youth Forum (EYF)\, the issues and priorities highlighted by young participants included the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic\, particularly related to its effect on human health\, the environment\, and food systems. As part of the official outcome recommendations of the EYF\, young participants stressed the importance of working towards more equitable food systems. In addition\, they highlighted the need for youth to make informed decisions on food choices through increasing global education on the healthiest and most sustainable options for both individuals and the environment. There were also recommendations on providing adequate capacity development with respect to the resilience of food systems\, in particular during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in its aftermath. \nThrough youth education\, engagement\, innovation and entrepreneurial solutions\, this year’s International Youth Day aims to provide a platform for young people to continue the momentum from the EYF in the lead up to the high-level Food Systems Summit. This year\, International Youth Day will be virtually convened by DESA in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Major Group for Children and Youth.

DESCRIPTION:What is World Hepatitis Day?\n\nWorld Hepatitis Day (WHD) takes places every year on 28 July bringing the world together under a single theme to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis and to influence real change. In 2022 the theme is ‘I Can’t Wait’. \nOn World Hepatitis Day\, 28 July\, we call on people from across the world to take action and raise awareness of hepatitis because Hepatitis Can’t Wait. \nWith a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis related illness – we can’t wait to act on viral hepatitis.\n\nPeople living with viral hepatitis unaware can’t wait for testing\nPeople living with hepatitis can’t wait for life saving treatments\nExpectant mothers can’t wait for hepatitis screening and treatment\nNewborn babies can’t wait for birth dose vaccination\nPeople affected by hepatitis can’t wait to end stigma and discrimination\nCommunity organisations can’t wait for greater investment\nDecision makers can’t wait and must act now to make hepatitis elimination a reality through political will and funding.\n\nI can’t wait\n‘I can’t wait’ is the new campaign theme to launch World Hepatitis Day 2022. It will highlight the need to accelerate the fight against viral hepatitis and the importance of testing and treatment for the real people who need it. The campaign will amplify the voices of people affected by viral hepatitis calling for immediate action and the end of stigma and discrimination.

SUMMARY:International Self-Care Day
DESCRIPTION:International Self-Care Day (ISD)\, on 24 July each year\, provides a focus and opportunity to raise the profile of healthy lifestyle self-care programmes around the world. ISD is a device developed by the International Self-Care Foundation to promote self-care as a vital foundation of health. ISD has been running since 2011. It provides a media-friendly forum and a focus for individuals and groups to (independently) promote self-care in their organisation or community. \nAll stakeholders in health are invited to use International Self-Care Day in responsible ways that progress the cause of healthy lifestyles and wellness. ISF is pleased to provide support to groups and organisations wishing to conduct public health programmes consistent with these objectives. ISF requests that groups and organisations that undertake public health programmes linked to ISD provide a summary report of the programmes\, for future reference and potential deployment in other countries. \nThe ISD Date \nThe International Self-Care Day\, 24 July\, symbolises that the benefits of self-care are experienced 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week. In other words\, the benefits of self-care are life-long and do not just relate to a single day. ISD on 24 July simply provides a good focus and opportunity to publicise or report on self-care in action programmes. Programme organisers may work around July 24 as convenient\, for example in 2014 for practical convenience organising events on the third Sunday of July. \nEach year ISF proposes a general theme for International Self-Care Day. For 24 July 2017\, the theme was ‘Get better with Self-Care’. For 24 July 2018\, the theme was ‘Feel Good\, 7/24’. Since 2019 there has been a choice of themes which can be used as appropriate: \n\nSelf-Care is for Life.\nGet Better with Self-Care\nTreat yourself to better health\n\n2020 is the start of a new decade for self-care\, so in addition to previous themes the following can be used: \n\nSelf-Care by all\, for all\nThe Self-Care 2020’s\nSelf-care for all. A New Decade\n\nSince 2011 self-care activities linked to ISD have been organised around the world\, in countries as far apart as Australia\, Bangladesh\, Bolivia\, Brazil\, Canada\, China\, Iran\, Kenya\, Mexico\, Myanmar\, Nepal\, South Africa\, South Korea\, Sri Lanka\, Switzerland\, Tanzania\, the United States\, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. Some countries – the UK and Canada – have organised self-care weeks. \nISD-related activities have been focused on youth (e.g. a poster design competition\, mob flash dance\, and concerts)\, seniors (community involvement programmes\, physical examination programmes)\, the general public (public lectures\, expert advice\, sponsored public walks\, football and golf matches\, tai chi classes)\, occupational health\, pharmacy (poster campaign\, pharmacy manager training)\, research (on self-care habits and behaviour)\, and the media (media events\, newspaper and journal articles). \nWe are delighted that the Senate of the United States agreed a Resolution to designate July 24 as International Self-Care Day – see Senate Resolution 515 of the 113th Congress. In 2019\, as in previous years\, Canadian Prime Minister Mr Justin Trudeau extended “my warmest greetings to everyone marking International Self-Care Day” (see http://selfcare.ca/self-care-day/ ). \nMost notably\, in 2019 the World Health Organisation announced a “Self-Care Month” starting on 24 June and ending on 24 July to coincide with International Self-Care Day. This was to allow for regional and national level initiatives by WHO and partners to be highlighted. In 2020 WHO again launched self-care month from 24 June to promote research and dialogue across Regions and with partners as WHO establishes a community of practice for self-care. \nISF’s ultimate aim is for ISD to be formally recognised by the United Nations as an official commemorative day\, which would encourage further participation.

It’s a perfect activity for anyone seeking an inspirational end to their day – you don’t have to be a Quality Forum participant to attend. \nThe event starts with a ceremony to recognize the winners of the BC Quality Awards\, which celebrate improvements in quality of care. \nNext\, you’ll hear from a diverse group of speakers who will all answer the question: What are your hopes for health care? \nAs a Powered by PechaKucha event\, Health Talks’ speakers don’t use presentations full of bullet points. Instead\, they use the PechaKucha presentation style\, which is a visual storytelling platform that simplifies the artful process of inspiring others.
